Return to normalcy?

Sat Jun 20, 2009, 4:40 PM
Rightee-oh, I have returned from the Mediterranean with firm intentions to be a new person. Is it just a personal quirk, or do you also find yourself vowing brilliant changes in lifestyle after a long stay away? And do these changes ever come to fruition? I suppose it doesn't really matter, as it nonetheless reflects the sheer impact of a thousand new visions.

This travel was all it looked to be even when it didn't always contain the elements planned at each stop (OK, how could I be in Rome and not get to the Forum? How could I be in Napoli and not find time for Pompeii? Answer: easy.) Everything I missed only added to a very convenient, molifying truth: return in not just an option, but a necessity. No need to throw coins in Trevi to reveal this fact.

I am afraid so many of my photos will turn out to be more documentation than "art." And as it should be, many of my favorite images did not lend themselves to photography, but do fit nicely into my memories, thank you very much. I hope to work on some shots soon, but then again I may need to concentrate on other things for the while (this has turned out to be a verdant spring and I'll need to brace my plum trees if I don't want to lose both fruit and limbs).

Nice to be home. Nice to have been away.

  • Mood: Overwhelmed
  • Listening to: translations
  • Reading: up on what I saw
  • Watching: the garden grow
  • Playing: the fool once more
  • Eating: no yet, time to cook
  • Drinking: a nice syrah

...a cool place to see life as it is.
Thank you for your fave for "Minimalisme-Plage"!

"STREET" is great fun, but it's NOT pics of empty streets, your feet on the pavement, graffiti, traffic lights, ten poses of your girlfriend, or buildings without people. More info --> [link]
Is there a Minimalist club? Or does this sort of thing fall into an "Abstract" category? I find myself gravitating so often toward line, shape, and colour rather than overt content ...

"It is Fate that I am here," persisted George. "But you can call it Italy if it makes you less unhappy."

E.M. Forster, A Room with a View
I've had a quick look but I couldn't find any. There probably is one somewhere, but just as probably it will be dormant.

I know what you mean, in my pictures I try to combine those things with content, but it isn't easy.

A good photograph is one that communicates a fact, touches the heart, leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it ... it is in one word: "effective" (IRVING PENN) My page: [link]
Thank you! :)
